Business Class

Business class on long-haul flights typically includes a fully flat seat (bed) with direct aisle access, lounge access at departure airport, priority check-in and boarding, an amenity kit, noise-cancelling headphones, à la carte or dine-on-demand dining, premium wines and spirits, and a large personal screen.

Qatar Airways Qsuites is consistently rated the world's best business class in 2026 — a fully enclosed suite with sliding door and double bed option. Singapore Airlines Business Class, Emirates Business Class and ANA The Room are the closest challengers.

British Airways Avios, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club and American Express Membership Rewards (transferable to multiple programmes) are the most accessible for UK travellers. A typical London–Dubai business class redemption costs 34,500 Avios one-way with British Airways.

On flights over 8 hours, the combination of a flat bed, lounge access, priority throughout and superior dining makes business class transformative — you arrive rested and ready. On shorter flights (4–6 hours), the value is harder to justify unless you need to work or have status.

First class typically adds a private enclosed suite (with door), a separate bed and armchair, a dedicated first class lounge (superior to business lounges), champagne by the glass (not bottle), chauffeur drive at some airlines, and significantly more privacy. The price difference is typically 2–4x business class.

Direct aisle access from every seat (standard on newer products) means you do not climb over anyone to reach the aisle. The "best" seat depends on your preference — window seats offer more privacy; middle seats in a 1-2-1 layout are popular for couples. Always check the specific seat map for your aircraft.

Arrive 2.5–3 hours before a long-haul business class departure to fully experience the lounge. Fast-track security typically processes in under 10 minutes from most premium check-in areas, but the lounge experience is a significant part of what you are paying for.

Major full-service carriers (Emirates, British Airways, Singapore Airlines, Qatar Airways etc.) operate dedicated business class lounges at their home hubs. At outstations, they may use third-party lounges or partner carrier facilities. Alliance partners (oneworld, Star Alliance, SkyTeam) share lounge access across member airlines.
